YMCK Series

– Frequently Asked Questions

What is YMCK Underglaze?

YMCK Underglaze is a water-based ceramic colour designed for decorating greenware and bisque.

It can be brushed, painted, layered and used for a wide variety of decorative techniques.

Can I dilute YMCK Underglaze?

Yes. If required, YMCK Underglaze can be diluted with a small amount of distilled water.

Add water gradually and mix thoroughly until the desired consistency is achieved. Avoid over-diluting, as this may reduce colour intensity and application performance.

Does YMCK Underglaze need a clear glaze?

Not necessarily.

Underglaze can be left unglazed where an unglazed surface is appropriate, or covered with a compatible clear glaze for a glossy, sealed finish.

For functional or food-contact ware, suitability depends on the complete fired glaze system, not simply the underglaze itself.

Can colours be mixed?

Yes. YMCK Underglaze colours can generally be mixed to create custom colours.

Because ceramic colours can behave differently during firing, we recommend making test tiles before producing larger batches.
