YMCK™ Textured Sand Underglaze combines rich, vibrant colour with a distinctive fine, sand-like texture. Unlike traditional underglazes, it can be layered and built up to create raised, tactile surfaces, adding depth and dimension to ceramic work.
Available in 14 colours, the range can be used beneath a clear glaze or left unglazed to showcase its natural matte, textured finish.

How to Use
Shake or stir thoroughly before use, as the textured particles may settle during storage.
Apply to greenware, bisque or over an unfired glaze. Colours can be layered, mixed together, or combined with regular underglazes for finer details.
For a more pronounced texture, build up the application in layers. For a softer effect, apply more thinly.
A clear glaze may be applied over the top. A generous clear-glaze application will soften or cover more of the textured effect, while a thin coat will allow more of the texture to remain visible.
Allow the applied surface to dry fully before handling, as the unfired textured particles have limited adhesion and may rub or flake off when touched.
 
Important Notes
Firing range: 1150–1350°C; recommended 1200–1240°C.
Texture may become less pronounced at higher firing temperatures.
Colours and surface effects will vary with clay body, glaze, application thickness and firing temperature. Always make a test tile before use.
Best suited to expressive, textured decoration rather than very fine line work. Regular underglaze can be used alongside it for detailed areas.
When left unglazed, not recommended for food-contact surfaces or functional tableware.
